New York City Police Department (NYPD):
Rich’s professional journey began with a twenty-year tenure at the New York City Police Department (NYPD), serving predominantly in the prestigious Highway Patrol unit. In this role, he was involved with planning and execution of security escorts for international figures-including Popes, Presidents, and Prime Ministers. Not only during high-profile events like the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), but also as part of his regular duties. He graduated from the NYPD’s elite Dignitary Protection school, gaining valuable insight into government executive protection operations.
Special Projects
During his NYPD career, Rich became a Special Projects Officer with a special focus on the negative impact on community safety caused by traffic crashes. Focusing on data-driven approaches to traffic crash management, he played a pivotal role in establishing TrafficStat, a program modeled after NYPD’s renowned CompStat, which analyzed crash data to help reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities. As an agency liaison, he coordinated with external agencies to devise efficient traffic movement plans across New York City. For his outstanding contributions, Rich was honored with the “Baker Award” from the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP
After retiring from the NYPD, Rich transitioned to a role with the United States Department of Transportation/NHTSA, where he collaborated with law enforcement agencies nationwide re: traffic safety and provided training on Traffic Incident Management.
Technology, Analytics, and Leadership Roles
Rich then joined LexisNexis, serving as a senior law enforcement liaison to tier-1 police agencies across the country. He also held the position of VP of Business Development at BlueLine Grid. A tech startup founded by Bill Bratton (former NYPD Commissioner and LAPD Chief) which aimed to enhance operations through a mobile app using software as a service (SaaS). These experiences deepened his expertise in technology and analytics
Executive Protection in the Private Sector
Shifting to the private sector, Rich entered the executive protection field, adapting to new challenges such as budget constraints and limited resources. He quickly learned the importance of meticulous planning and resourcefulness, often working independently. He did this while providing executive protection for a Forbes ranked individual, overseeing security for his family and their residences nationwide.
Corporate Security Leadership
Rich subsequently led the Executive & Event Protection team for Deutsche Bank in the Americas, managing a team tasked with safeguarding the Global Management Board and overseeing security at major bank events.
Vision and Innovation: Founding EZ-EP
Drawing upon his diverse experiences, Rich identified a need for improved data and information collection for executive protection practitioners. Recognizing the limitations of traditional documentation, mostly paper based. He envisioned a more efficient solution. He developed a platform designed to streamline information gathering, report generation and protective planning for the executive protection industry. Enter EZ-EP.
